A poem made by Stephen Spenders that describes what a great person is. In my opinion, a 'great' person is not the famous ones, nor the rich ones. Though usually, a great person becomes famous. A great person is someone that made a great change for the better.
People whom I think great are the people around me that shaped me to who I am now. First is my family, especially my parents. They were my first teachers, first people to see the real me and they were the ones I’m with every single day. From our ESP (Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao) lessons before, what we see from our parents is what we’ll do in the society. For example, if a person’s parents are always fighting, he or she may be violent. But when a person’s parents are the opposite, the person may have the tendencies to be understanding or quiet. I see my parents as the mould of my life for they were the ones guiding me ‘til now. Also, my aunts and uncles that help me in any way they can. They were also my guide alongside with my parents. I also included my cousin (I’m 4 years younger than her) because I treat her as my best friend and she gives me advices on all my problems- that helps all the time! Second, I think the people I idolize (KathNiel, P5, SofKing and John Green) are great, I would not idolize them if I don’t think they’re great! In simple ways, they’ve made me change for the better like improving my time management. *grins* Of course, as I’ve said, great people are usually famous like Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Ferdinand Marcos, Ninoy Aquino, Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Marc Pingris. They were really my inspiration ever since. They have shown patience, intelligence, and the good attitude to people around them. They were also humble to their achievements and I can say that they really deserve to be called great.
As what Martin Luther King Jr. said, not everyone can be famous but everyone can be great for greatness is measured by service.
